Corticosteroids Injections

Steroids are a man-made version of hormones normally produced by the adrenal glands. When injected into a joint or muscle, it reduced inflammation in the given area. This can help relief pain, swelling and stiffness. The effects of the steroid injection can take 48-72 hrs to see results, however some patients will see results immediately. The effect of the injection can last 3-6 months with some lasting up to a year.

Steroids are often used by people with inflammatory conditions and musculoskeletal pain, such as inflammatory arthritis and will be prescribed by a doctor or specialist. However, they can also be used in degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis and a range of other soft tissue conditions which also involved pain and/or inflammation.

Dependent on the joint, you may benefit from having your steroid injection ultrasound guided. This will be discussed with you prior to your injection.

Ultrasound guided steroid injection:£200
Non-guided steroid injection £160

Platelet Rich Plasma Injections

PRP (platelet rich plasma) is a process whereby some blood is taken (usually from the arm) and then spun at high speed using a specialist piece of equipment known as a centrifuge. This  spinning causes the blood to separate into a range of parts depending upon weight. A specific part of the separated blood is plasma which will contain 2-5 times the usual number of platelets. Years of research have consistently demonstrated that this enriched plasma has a regenerative affect on the tissues of the body by triggering natural healing processes.

PRP injections are delivered under ultrasound guidance to the area (normally a joint or tendon) of pain and degeneration.

PRP injections are often recommended for people with osteoarthritis of the knees but can be used in other joints with osteoarthritis as well as a range of other soft tissue conditions which involve pain and degenerative changes seen on scans.

Most research shows that a series of 3 PRP injections each 1-2 weeks apart gives the best outcome. Therefore we typically offer a treatment program consisting of 3 PRP injections.

Single injection £400
Three injections over a six month period: £1000

Hyaluronic acid injections (Ostenil® Plus)

Ostenil® Plus is a solution containing hyaluronic acid. It is injected into the space in the joint that contains synovial fluid and works by restoring the normal balance between the breakdown and production of hyaluronic acid.  The hyaluronic acid in Ostenil® Plus is manufactured using a process called fermentation. It contains no animal proteins, which means it is very unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. The addition of Mannitol (a simple sugar derivative) to Ostenil® Plus allows the Hyaluronic Acid to work for longer and more efficiently in the joint, enabling effective symptom reduction with a single injection. Ostenil® Plus has been extensively tested and has not been found to cause any serious side effects. The exact make-up of the hyaluronic acid in Ostenil® Plus has been carefully chosen so that it is as effective as possible in treating osteoarthritis.

Ostenil® Plus Injection: £250
Steroid injection + Ostenil® Plus Injection: £325
